Host-pathogen interaction during microbial infection is importantly involved in determination of disease outcome. The interaction of microbes with innate receptors triggers intracellular signaling cascades that culminate in a proinflammatory response and antimicrobial responses. However, it should be tightly regulated to prevent excessive and exacerbated inflammatory responses, often harmful to host. Our laboratory focused on the studies to decipher molecular networks dependent on Toll-like receptor (TLR) signaling in macrophages infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis or specific mycobacterial antigens. Understanding intracellular signaling network during mycobacterial infection will provide new therapeutic strategies against human tuberculosis and atypical mycobacterial diseases.
